Do you celebrate your wins?

I mean, do you REALLY celebrate them? With your heart, your mind, your body?

If you are like me, you tend to downplay your successes both internally and externally. Well, after all, you have put in the work, haven’t you? So success is a mere consequence, something to be expected, right? You just better not fail. And if you didn’t fail, you just move on. What’s the fuss? At some point you take things for granted.

Last week, I was attending a business and personality building „seminar“ (for lack of a better word) in Cyprus. There were a few enlightening moments and one of them was the realization by highly successful people that they never truly honored and celebrated their successes in life. Sadly, I felt like I was one of them. Spontaneously, all participants were asked to write down their biggest wins of their lives and then – one after the other – was asked to shout out their successes to the group while celebrating each one of them with all their energy, the whole group chiming in.

It’s difficult to describe how liberating and at the same time empowering this experience was. After this experience, I promised myself to make it a habit celebrating every win deliberately and sincerely, even the small ones. And I encourage you to do the same.

Here’s why we should all celebrate our successes more:

  • It reinforces positive behavior that will help you be successful in the future. This works on a physiological level, as dopamine will help with anchoring and creates long-lasting positive memories.
  • It makes you feel alive, boosts mood, perception of self-worth and confidence.
  • It strengthens social bonds, if you celebrate as a group or team, growing a sense of unity and trust.
  • It attracts new opportunities, as people are drawn to success and positivity.

What about you? Do you celebrate your successes and how?
